ciruelas colombianas

While cruising the Plaza de Lourdes last week, Seth and I spotted carts full of ciruelas colombianas, or Colombian plums. Because they were slightly rough in appearance, we thought they might have had a savory taste, kind of like that of a Peruvian potato. A vendor let us try a couple before purchasing, and as soon as we bit into their grape skin-like exterior, we learned that the small, cherry-sized fruits were bursting with sugary sweet, orangish-yellow juice. Although ciruelas colombianas are likely too tiny and troublesome for juicing, they seem perfect for afternoon snacking!
